With temperatures often reaching the 70s, lots of blue skies, and fewer people than the peak of summer, October is a great time to enjoy North Fork.

With so much to do, it can be difficult to put everything away. For help, we asked some area realtors for their ideal ways to spend an afternoon or even a full weekend.

Living the harvest

“Fall is definitely a great time to take in the beauty that surrounds the North Fork,” says Alexis Prairies, licensed real estate seller, NoFo Real Estate. “What tends to pique my interest the most is the changing landscape within the farms and nurseries that welcome charming options for interior design. A visit to The Trimble Nursery and Krupski Farms are a must. Likewise, visit the historic Wickham Fruit Farm at Cutchogue is an annual tradition, both for their cider donuts and picking our favorite Honeycrisp apples. East End Moms, ornamental grasses and the unique assortment of pumpkins make their debut on our front porch in early October.

“October is the peak pumpkin season in North Fork,” says Marianne collins, Certified Real Estate Salesperson, Brown Harris Stevens. “Depending on your preferences, you can dive in and kiss her, visit the iconic farm stalls to pick pumpkins, take a hay walk, pick apples, or navigate a corn maze. Enjoy all the amazing produce from our farms during this harvest season; pick up the late tomatoes by bushel at Wesnofske Farms and go home to make gravy, saving the last summer for the winter to come.

Stay active

“My perfect fall weekend in North Fork would start with my favorite fall suede hat from mint, the clothing store on Love Lane in Mattituck, ”explains Mariah J. Mills, real estate seller, Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty. One of my favorite fall activities in North Fork is walking around the Laurel Lake Preserve with my husband and our 1.5 year old Border Collie. During this time of year, the foliage begins to change and the temperature cools, creating the perfect weather for a walk.

“October is the last full month in which I can enjoy all of my outdoor activities before I close for winter,” says Thomas mccloskey, Chartered Real Estate Broker, Douglas Elliman. “I love to start the weekend off with a fishing trip targeting striped bass, false albacore and blue fish, leaving the dock at first light of day. October is one of the best months for fishing on North Fork; The beaches of Long Island Sound offer fantastic fishing opportunities if you don’t have a boat. If conditions aren’t good for boating and fishing, a New Suffolk bike ride to and along Oregon Road is a great way to take advantage of the cooler weather and soak up the atmosphere. bucolic North Fork.

“Take the road less traveled,” Collins says. “Get off the main roads, cycle along the nicer stretches of Oregon Road or Narrow River Road, or stroll the now much quieter beaches. Try Bailie’s or Goldsmith’s on the Sound, Orient State Park, Nassau Point Causeway on the Bay. ”

Food and drink

“Picking produce and navigating the corn mazes can be an exhausting morning, so in the afternoon it’s time to relax and listen to some live music at one of the many local wineries or to stop at Greenport Harbor Brewery in Peconic for a bunch of leaves, ”says Mills. “After a drink, head to Kenny’s Beach in Southold to recuperate and watch the sunset. Then have dinner at North fork table where the menu is inspired by the waterways and surrounding farmlands of North Fork. Remember to book in advance as this is a restaurant you should not miss.

“On sunny days we like to take the opportunity to sit outside. Not only is the air crisp, but the people watching Street Love is always a good time, ”says Erica Guja, real estate agent, Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty. “In the fall, my favorite brunch is their green eggs, served with sweet potatoes, with a fall mimosa. Since any day in fall is a cheat day, we might even go crazy and share a side of their pumpkin or ricotta pancakes, which are to die for.

“After an active morning, I like to have lunch in an outdoor setting,” says McCloskey. “Jamesport Vineyard, Billy by the Bay and Southold Fish Market are great this time of year.

“If we smelled wine, our favorite place in the fall is Lieb cellars, where we can order their Cabernet Franc and make ourselves comfortable in one of their homes as the sun begins to set, ”says Guja. If we smelled a beer our favorite place would be Jamesport Farm Brewery who has the best pumpkin beer with a cinnamon sugar rim.
