Suffolk supermarket opening hours from Christmas Eve to New Years Day

Supermarkets across the country have posted their Christmas opening hours, and whether you’re doing some last minute shopping or just need more supplies, it always helps to know.

The majority of places extend their shopping hours as Christmas approaches, although some are closed for the big day and beyond as they take a bit of time off the busy holiday schedule.

Here is a summary of the opening hours of all major UK supermarkets for the holiday season in Suffolk. Some will be different from others depending on the store.

Tesco

Extras, supermarkets and Metro Tesco will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, while Express stores will close a little later at 10 p.m.

No Tesco stores will be open on Christmas Day, but normal Sunday hours will resume Boxing Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Extras, Superstores and Metro stores and Express stores at 10 p.m.

New Years Eve will see Extras, Superstores and Metros close at 7pm with Express stores at 10pm while New Years Day will see all stores open at 8am, but will close at 6pm with Express again at 10pm.

Morrisons



Morrisons

Most Morrisons supermarkets will have extended hours before the holiday season, but will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

All stores will remain closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

New Years Eve and New Years will once again see all stores open until 6 p.m.

Asda

Asda

Bury St. Edmunds and Ipswich stores are open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Boxing Day, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Years Eve, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Years Day.

Lowestoft Asda will be open from 12pm to 7pm on Christmas Eve and 6am to 7pm on New Years Eve while Stowmarket will be open from 7.30am to 7pm on New Years Eve.

All stores are closed on Christmas Day.

Sainsbury’s



Sainabury's is the only UK supermarket to close all stores, express stores and gas stations

Most Sainsbury’s branches will close at 7:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve and at 9:00 p.m. for convenience stores.

Stores will then close for two days on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The Ipswich store will be open 9am to 7pm on New Years Day while Bury St. Edmunds will be open 8am to 8pm.

Although Aldi is extending its hours of operation as Christmas approaches, Christmas Eve will see a shorter trading day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day will see stores close as well as New Years Day while New Years Day stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Most stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed all day on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years.

The opening hours on New Years Eve will generally be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.

The supermarket says: “On Christmas Eve the majority of our stores will open from 7 am to 6 pm and on New Years Eve from 8 am to 6 pm.

“On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, our stores will be closed with the exception of the Welcome Break motorway service stations and Shell forecourts – some of which will be open 24 hours a day.

“On New Year’s Day, our stores will be closed, except for a small number which will have varying opening hours between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.”
