Rumor Connor Wickham, Amadeu Paixao and entrants – Behind the scenes in Sheffield Wednesday
With all the offensive acquisitions, are we still interested in Josh Sims?
It has gotten very quiet on The Sims. There was interest a few weeks ago but since then Darren Moore and the recruiting team have called on Theo Corbeanu, Marvin Johnson and Sylla Sow to bolster the broad estates.
The Sims are still available for free and it’s Wednesday’s market, but the Owls now have quite a few options in their stance and there’s Olamide Shodipo and Josh Windass to return.
Do you know which / how many young boys Darren Moore would hire this year to gain valuable experience?
I expect that one or two young people will leave on loan in the coming week.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Ryan Galvin, Liam Waldock or Alex Hunt go temporarily. They will only develop and improve by playing matches.
It’s a huge step forward to play at the Under-23 level in Ligue 1 football.
Where does Fisayo Dele-Bashiru fit into Darren Moore’s plans?
Moore loves Dele-Bashiru and thinks he has a lot of potential.
He traveled with the team to Charlton but missed the team. What Dele-Bashiru has going in his favor is that he can play on the flank or in the No.10 position.
I’m sure he will have the opportunity to stake a dealership over the next few weeks.
How long should Shodipo be away?
I know he is improving but he did not participate in full training this week. He is still working closely with the medical team on Wednesday. I would be surprised to see him in the squad on Saturday.
Do you think it makes sense to sign more attacking players now?
I think it makes sense for Wednesday to sign another striker. The competition for places keeps players on their toes and gives Moore the ability to switch systems / personnel.
There is a possibility that Wednesday could play almost 60 games this season, so I think it’s important that they have a strong squad.
Are you waiting for other signatures?
I do. Moore wants another striker and the work continues behind the scenes to add to the squad.
The good thing from Wednesday’s point of view is that they’ve now done most of their business. The window is open for a few more weeks, so there is no need to panic. They have time to make other additions if they feel they need more coverage in one or two positions.
Do you think Wednesday will try for Connor Wickham?
I can’t see that one. He was making a lot of money at Crystal Palace, so he should have suffered a massive pay cut to start.
Another thing to consider would be Wickham’s injury / fitness record. He has not played a competitive game since his last game on Wednesday in July 2020.
And would Wickham really want to move to League One? At 28, he is expected to be in his prime and likely considers himself a championship player.

Is Wednesday still interested in Kyle Hudlin?
He’s a player Wednesday has watched in the past, but I think they have other targets in mind. He’s also under contract at Solihull Moors and as we all know Wednesday can’t afford the player transfer fee at the moment.
If we can’t afford the fees, why is there a connection to Ellis Harrison from Portsmouth? That would require a fee, wouldn’t it?
Maybe not. Look at the smart deals negotiated Wednesday for George Byers and Lee Gregory. They were contract players but Wednesday ended up not paying the transfer fee for them.
Are we going to look for another left defender as we play Liam Palmer at left-back while he’s right-footed?
Interestingly, Moore played Liam Palmer at left-back and pushed Jaden Brown further. Lewis Gibson and Marvin Johnson can also play in the back, so Moore may think he has enough coverage there.
Did Wednesday sign Lee Gregory for free or was something activated in his contract at Stoke City?
Gregory was a free. He had 12 months left on his contract with Stoke, but had failed to stick to Michael O’Neill’s plans. He spent the second half of the last term on loan at Derby County. I think they were happy to make a deal and take it off the payroll.
Is Amadeu Paixao still advising the president?
Yes, Paixao is still involved with the club as an advisor to Dejphon Chansiri.
