Philanthropist donates $ 1 million to Peconic Bay Medical Center
RIVERHEAD, NY – A retired obstetrician and philanthropist has donated $ 1 million to the emergency department of the Peconic Bay Medical Center Foundation.
The donation, from Dr Stanley Zinberg, a retired obstetrician and gynecologist, will be used for a dedicated space for intensive care and trauma needs within the emergency department – the first step in the gradual expansion and renovation at come from the existing establishment, according to officials of the hospital mentioned.
“Dr. Stanley Zinberg’s incredible donation will transform emergency medical care in the East End and further improve the quality of care we provide to thousands of patients each year,” said Lincoln Cox, MD, chief medical officer emergency at PBMC.
The expansion of the emergency department will add new treatment areas, including the Zinberg family’s intensive care and trauma unit, which can accommodate multiple patients simultaneously in its trauma resuscitation room. The expansion will serve to increase capacity and streamline operations, hospital officials said.
The East End of Long Island is seeing a “dramatic increase in population” of residents of areas such as New York City, so expansion of the emergency department at Peconic Bay Medical Center is essential, hospital officials said .
PBMC provides access to emergency services, including life-threatening injuries, stroke and cardiac services, to more than 250,000 residents of East Suffolk County. Integrated with the resources of the Northwell Health System, the center also includes access to advanced rescue capabilities, including emergency ultrasound and radiology services on site, the Kanas Regional Heart Center, a Level III Trauma Center, a stroke center designated by the State of New York. and SkyHealth emergency helicopter services.
