WYANDANCH, NY (CBSNewYork) – A teenager was to be brought to justice following an accident that killed a mother and seriously injured the woman’s daughter on Friday on Long Island.
Police said Franklyn Charles, 18, was behind the wheel of a high-speed luxury sedan weaving through traffic before the Wyandanch crash, CBS2’s Jennifer McLogan reported on Saturday.

Police said Charles’ car struck a vehicle coming out of a driveway on Little East Neck Road near Lincoln Avenue.
Jennifer Figueroa and her 11-year-old daughter Anahi were inside. They were rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital, but the 30-year-old mother did not survive.
âWe used to go to church at church time. So that’s what she was doing, âsaid Amy Figueroa, the victim’s sister.
Distraught friends and neighbors brought in the family food on Saturday.
“We just learned today that she is deceased and that the little girl is, I believe, in a coma,” said Gerson Cifuentes.
Relatives said Anahi was sedated and had yet to learn that her mother had died in the crash. Family members watch over the bedside.

âMy parents are upset and I try to help them in any way I can. Get your things ready to go to the hospital now, âAmy said.
Back at the family home, a pumpkin sits on the porch near Anahi’s shoes.
âIt’s sad that she is without her mother,â said Janice Cruz.
As crews continued to repair wires that fell from the crash, neighbors said they wanted more stop signs.
âI wrote a letter to the city to put something here because the cars are, ‘whoosh, whoosh.’ It’s like they have a speeding problem, âsaid Violet Basio.
“Too bad. You know, I have two children, I’m really afraid to go to the streets here,” said Maxim Polino.
