CHBC Fifth at Gene Armer Track Invitational

CHAMPAGNE – Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City took fifth place as a team at the Gene Armer Track Invitational for boys on Saturday.

Normal Community High School was the tag team champion with 58 points. CHBC finished fifth with 36 points while Newton finished 18th with 11.

CHBC’s Jadon Robertson finished first in the 60-metre hurdles with a time of 8.24 seconds. Robertson also finished first in the long jump with a leap of 6.64 metres. He finished second in the high jump at 1.92 meters.

His teammate Daniel Lucas took second place in the shot with a lift of 16.92 meters.

The only other top five was Newton’s 3200 stint. The Eagles, which included Owen Mahaffey, Nicholas Shamhart, Nick Zwilling and Luke Weber, finished in 8:47.87 minutes.

Newton finished 18th as a team with 11 points.

On the girls side, Kankakee Senior won the team title with 61 points. Newton finished 12th with 22, Brownstown/St. Elmo 17th with 13 and Teutopoils 22nd with eight.

Brownstown/St. Elmo’s Addie McWhorter was the best zone finisher in the competition. McWhorter took second place in the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters.

The other top five in the area were the Brownstown/St. Elmo 3200 relay team of Jaydin Huddlestun, Cordelia Lytle, Kyleigh Ward and Katie Berner with a time of 11:21.87 minutes. Newton finished just behind BSE in fifth place in 11:26.14. The Eagles members were Ella Radke, Jorja Whitaker, Natalie Kistner and Karasyn Martin.
